The first thing to do is to login to your console or check your variables

$ mysql -u root

SHOW VARIABLES LIKE 'sql_mode%';

If you see something like:

| sql_mode   | ONLY_FULL_GROUP_BY,STRICT_TRANS_TABLES,NO_ZERO_IN_DATE,NO_ZERO_DATE,ERROR_FOR_DIVISION_BY_ZERO,NO_ENGINE_SUBSTITUTION |

    Locate your my.cnf and set the sql mode to:

    sql_mode=NO_ENGINE_SUBSTITUTION

    Some older version of mysql use

    sql-mode=NO_ENGINE_SUBSTITUTION

    Then fire a restart to mysql server doing something like:

    $ sudo service mysqld restart
