    I did a blank ionic 3 compilation, and when I did:

    $ ionic cordova platform add ios

    [OK] Added cordova integration!

    > cordova platform add ios --save

    Using cordova-fetch for [email protected]^5.0.0

    Failed to fetch platform [email protected]^5.0.0

    Probably this is either a connection problem, or platform spec is incorrect.

    Check your connection and platform name/version/URL.

    Could not determine package name from output:

    > [email protected] install /Users/tony/dev/ionic/test/MyIonicProject/node_modules/fsevents

    > node-gyp rebuild

    added 99 packages, removed 482 packages and updated 7 packages in 31.414s

    [ERROR] Exception:

    I discovered my node version was 8.0, so i stepped it down to 7.0 and that solved the problem

    $  nvm ls

     v6.9.3

       v7.0.0

    ->   v8.0.0

         v8.9.4

        v13.1.0

    Changing temporarily to 7.0.0 works

    $ nvm use 7.0.0

    I will make that permanent by doing:

    $ nvm alias default 7.0.0
